You can do a lot without learning it very deeply, but if you do sink the time in, there's a lot more to learn than there appears to be at first. ![]() But you do have to learn it in and out (I find it very intuitive, but tutorials/books to learn it are a must). I think Zbrush is worth it because you get it for (basically) the rest of your life with free updates/upgrades. The UV mapping and texturing is one of the best parts of Zbrush and those features are not included in Zbrushcore, but that's less important for environment (but still imporant). Here's a comparison and here's a reddit thread about why zbrush vs zbrushcore. You get to keep the license forever and you get free updates (you don't have to pay for yearly upgrades). You get the full version of Zbrush at a big discount - half the price.
